Since we are approaching the end of Q2, we thought it would be the perfect time to talk about goal setting. It is so crucial not just in business, but in life, to know how to set goals that are in alignment with the person you want to become and set you up for success.
Here are 3 steps you can take to ensure that your goals are realistic and achievable, along with tips to help you stick to them in the months ahead:
1.) Set specific, measurable goals.
One of the best ways to ensure that your goals are achievable is to make sure they are specific and measurable. For example, instead of saying “I want to be more organized,” try saying “I want to have a clean desk by the end of the week.” Instead of “I want to make more money,” try saying “I want to double my monthly revenue by the end of the first quarter.”
When your goals are measurable, realistic, and time-based, you’ll have a better idea of when you’ve actually accomplished them, and this will help keep you motivated as you work towards your targets.
2.) Make sure your goals are realistic.
It’s important to set goals that are realistic for you. For example, if you don’t have the bandwidth to take on 4 new clients this quarter, make sure that your revenue goals are set with that in mind.
Start with smaller goals and work your way up as you become more comfortable. This will help ensure that you’re not overwhelmed and that you’re able to stick to your goals. When you set goals that are too lofty and lack the resources or time to achieve, it’s easy to become discouraged and give up when you don’t meet them.
But by starting small and gradually increasing the difficulty level, you’ll be more likely to succeed in the long run. And, who knows – once you’ve achieved your smaller goals, you may even find that you’re ready to take on something bigger! Those bigger goals are often easier to manage when you break them up into smaller goals with shorter timelines.
3.) Check in with your goals weekly.
Checking in with your goals weekly will ensure that your progress stays in the forefront of your mind. Here at PowHERhouse, we set quarterly goals, have a monthly meeting to track our progress (and celebrate our wins), and we check in with each other EVERY WEEK!
We have found a system that works for us to make sure we are always on the same page and actively working on our goals, together. We communicate weekly to not only share our progress, but to ask for help if we need it and bounce ideas off one another.
It is so important to be checking in on your goals often because you DO NOT want time to go by where you lose your focus and things get dropped. Or you realize a goal you’ve been working on no longer is in alignment with your mission. Checking in weekly can help center your thoughts and devise your next action!
